SpaceX, Apple representatives and the former president of Estonia, among the speakers of The Parliamentarian – Private Sector Forum, in Bucharest

The first edition of The Parliamentarian – Private Sector Forum, a multidisciplinary event that brings together parliamentarians and prominent names in the IT&C sector from all over the world, will take place on the 1st of October, at the Parliament Palace in Bucharest. SpaceX, Apple, Vodafone Technology representatives and the former president of Estonia are among the speakers of the event.

It is the first international private-parliamentary forum dedicated to national parliamentary committees and representatives of the private sector who have a real impact in the field of IT&C.

The Parliamentarian – Private Sector Forum comes with a promising premiere: applied dialogue, with exchange of opinions, useful information and solutions for the digital future and a business environment adapted to the new realities.

The event brings to Bucharest over 300 guests from 13 countries and over 15 speakers. With the general theme „Bridging the digital divide – a global agenda for the future”, the forum aims to create a strategic connection between political decision-makers and representatives of the private sector with an interest in the tech area. The main objective of the event is to strengthen cooperation between parliamentarians and the business environment, in order to generate opportunities for economic developments and applied solutions for digitization.

Alongside other well-known digitization experts and leaders, David Goldman – Satellite Policy Director at SpaceX, Peter Thompson – Head of Education Strategic Engagement Apple, Scott Petty from Vodafone Technology, Patrick Schraut, Head of Cybersecurity NTT DATA EMEAL, will talk about how the changes of the future translate into the business environment. 

Among the international guests from the public sector, will take the stage of the event – Kersti Kaljulaid, the former president of the Republic of Estonia, Houlin Zhao, the current Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union, Duarte Pacheco, the president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Amandeep Gill the representative of the UN Secretary General in the field of technology, Pascal Steichen, director of Cyber Security for Europe, but also the future Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union.

There are more than 13 countries that will be represented by parliamentarians, ambassadors and officials of the diplomatic corps. Among them – USA, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Portugal, Syria, Pakistan.

They will be joined by high-level Romanian government officials, the Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitization, Sebastian Burduja, Dan Cîmpean, the National Cyber Security Directorate and Sabin Sărmaș, the president of the Committee for Information and Communications Technology of the Chamber of Deputies, the committee that initiated this project.

The event will have the structure of panel discussions, being divided into themes:

  • Bridging the connectivity gap;
  • Digital Literacy;
  • Sharing visions and debates;
  • Cyber security & resilience.

It is the first international public-private from that brings together global parliamentarians, leaders of internationally renowned technology companies and digitization experts. The future belongs to those who understand that together we are better and stronger. It is a useful event for tech companies, but also an opportunity for the entire private sector to be a dialogue partner and to actively contribute to the shaping of global policies. We are the first edition, but it will certainly remain a reference event in the industry, which we want to continue.”, said Sabin Sărmaș, President of the IT&C Commission, the commission that initiated this project.

The Parliamentarian – Private Sector Forum is organised under the auspices of the Romanian Parliament and the IT&C Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, on the sidelines of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-22), which Romania will host between September 26 and October 14.

PP-22 is the most important event of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the specialized agency for information and communication technologies within the UN. Sabin Sărmaș is the designated President of the conference.
