Spokesman Carbunaru presents rights provided in new Education laws and launches call on teachers

Published on

Government spokesman Dan Carbunaru presented on Thursday the new rights that teachers will benefit from under the education laws, which will come into force on September 1, write Agerpres.

He also called on teachers to understand the Government’s willingness to dialogue and the fact that the Executive has prepared a series of concrete measures, such as increasing the salaries of non-teaching staff in education.

During a press conference held at the Victoria Palace, Carbunaru said that the Government treats „with maximum responsibility, attention and respect” the role that education must play in a society. He added that there are „many gaps” accumulated over the past decades, which must be resolved in a sustainable and rapid manner.

„At the moment, we have come to witness, unfortunately, a few days ago, after two years of pandemic, a situation in which children and teachers do not find themselves with very few exceptions in class. We call on teachers and staff in the education system, on the one hand, to understand the Government’s willingness to dialogue on the problems they are facing, but also the result of these concerns, which is translated into concrete measures that the Government has prepared, which it is already starting to implement tomorrow, with the emergency ordinance that will be approved tomorrow and which will contain the possibility of increasing revenues in the education system, within the current legislative framework. As a matter of urgency, all the steps that need to be taken to bring the position of the education system in the pay grid to the top, as close as possible to what is necessary and expected, in the overall pay scales in the future pay law – this is an obligation that Romania has assumed in the PNRR, but it is also a commitment that the Government has made to the trade unions and that will be reflected in the future government programme,” he said.

Carbunaru mentioned that the PNRR provides for „massive investments” in the education system, worth 3.6 billion euros, aiming at the installation of 10,000 new laboratories or with state-of-the-art equipment, the construction or rehabilitation of education units.
