The State of Israel has always supported our country and the Romanian people, being one of Romania’s essential partners, both in the Middle East and worldwide, the president of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania (FCER) deputy Silviu Vexler declared, on Tuesday, in the plenary session of the Parliament, at the solemn meeting of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate devoted to the celebration of the Day of Solidarity and Friendship between Romania and the State of Israel.
„In today’s world, it has become almost unbelievable to be able to listen, along with the national anthem, to the anthem of the State of Israel, perhaps because its name is ‘Hativa’ – hope. In a normal period, the gesture we are making today would have a special importance in itself, but, in the current context, marking the Day of Solidarity and Friendship between Romania and the State of Israel is truly a historical act. It is often said that true friendship manifests itself in the most difficult moments ever, the time for such a symbol is now,” said deputy Vexler.
According to him, although it was almost continuously in a hostile environment, the State of Israel remained a symbol of democracy, a model for a tolerant society, but also a global benchmark for research and innovation.
„When attacking the State of Israel became almost a habit, in a period in which more and more Parliaments adopt resolutions condemning the State of Israel for doing what is necessary to protect its citizens, Romania chose to be on the right side of history,” the chairman of FCER pointed out.
He mentioned that at the foundation of Romania are all those who believed in the ideals of the Romanian people, including citizens belonging to various national minorities.
At the beginning of the solemn meeting, a short anniversary video message was sent by the prime minister of the Government of the State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.
