Statement by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Bucharest on the occasion of demise of His Excellency, President Mr. Ebrahim Raisi, and Foreign Minister, Mr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

With profound sorrow, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Bucharest announces the demise of His Excellency, President Mr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister, Mr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

In a sorrowful incident, President Raisi, and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and a few other officials of Iran tragically demised on 19^th May 2024. The late President Raisi was a hard-working and popular president who dedicated his life to serving the people of Iran. Also, the late Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian was a distinguished professional diplomat who devoted himself to the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and contributed to international and regional diplomacy. Five days of public mourning, from 20^th to 24^th May 2024 has been declared.

In accordance with the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the first vice-President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mr. Mohammad Mokhber has been approved as responsible for the executive branch of the Islamic Republic of Iran and together with the heads of the parliament (Majlis) and the judiciary of the Islamic republic of Iran will take the necessary steps that a new president to be elected, not later than 50 days. Also, H.E. Mr. Ali Bagheri, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has been appointed as the acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the Iranian people during this time of national mourning. We deeply appreciate all those who expressed their condolences and sympathy to the people and the government of Iran.
