New registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport increased by 4.5% in Q1 2024, year-over-year, and the share of new registrations of imported second-hand cars in total new car registrations increased by 4.5 percentage points, according to data published Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the cited source, in the first three months of the current year, new registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport registered increases in all categories, as follows: mopeds and motorcycles – by 16.1%, passenger cars – by +4.2% and buses and minibuses – by 2.8%.
As regards new registrations of new road vehicles for passenger transport, positive percentages were recorded in the buses and minibuses category – by 41.2%, respectively in the mopeds and motorcycles category – by 17.2%. On the other hand, year-over-year, passenger car registrations fell by 10.1%.
INS data show that new registrations of road vehicles for the transport of goods increased in all categories, as follows: tractor units (+11.4%), trailers and semi-trailers (+9.8%) and lorries (including special purpose road vehicles) – by 9.1%.
At the same time, in the segment of new road vehicles for goods transport, there were increases in registrations in the following categories: lorries (including special-purpose road vehicles) – by 13.2%, and trailers/semi-trailers (+11.5%). By contrast, the category of tractor units recorded a decrease of 5.6%.
Compared to Q4 2023, in the first three months of this year, new registrations of road vehicles increased by 2.7% for passenger vehicles and by 11.3% for goods vehicles.
In addition, 62.4% of road vehicles classified according to European emission standards, registered for use on public roads at the end of Q1 2024, were vehicles with Euro 4, Euro 5 or Euro 6 environmental standards and 10.6% were vehicles with non-Euro emission standards.
In the passenger car category, the largest share was held by vehicles complying with the Euro 4 standard, namely 34.1%; for the buses and minibuses category, most vehicles (23.6%) were classified as Euro 3, and for the mopeds and motorcycles category most vehicles (25.7%) were classified as non-Euro.
At the same time, vehicles complying with the European Euro 3 standard predominated in the lorry category (28.2%), those complying with the Euro 6 standard were predominant for the tractor unit category (41.4%), and in the special purpose road vehicle category most vehicles (23.5%) were classified as non-Euro.
