Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu declared on Tuesday that the success of the authorities’ efforts to combat drug use depends decisively on the effectiveness of preventive measures.
He welcomed the sustained effort, the vigilance and the cooperation of the state institutions, which prevented the transit of a record quantity of cocaine, hidden in a shipment of frozen fruits, through the Port of Constanta.
„Congratulations and my full appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of this anti-drug operation. It is an example of professionalism that I wish to be continued. It certainly represents an important signal to discourage drug trafficking in Romania and the transit of such products through the country”, Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.
The head of the Government gave assurances that he will provide support in promoting anti-drug and prevention actions and policies, including in educational institutions.
„You will have permanent support from the Government in promoting anti-drug and prevention actions and policies, including in educational institutions, to the same extent that we want to focus on health and recovery intervention for those who, unfortunately, they end up going through the traumatic and extremely harmful experience of drug use. I wish you success in all your actions! Taking care of the present of our children and young people, we take care of the future of the nation!”, said Prime Minister Ciolacu.
Two men were arrested on Tuesday for international drug trafficking, after the prosecutors and the police found in the Port of Constanta cocaine hidden in approximately 15 tonnes of frozen fruit pulp from Ecuador.
