Survey: AUR, USR – more popular among men, PSD, PNL – more popular among women

The Alliance for Romanians’ Union (AUR) ranks first in voting intentions for the parliamentary elections, representing the choice of 44% of men and 32% of women, according to the results of an INSCOP survey released on Tuesday.

The data were collected between 26 October and 3 November using the CATI method (telephone interviews), with a simple, stratified sample having consisted of 3,000 people, representative of the main socio-demographic categories of Romania’s non-institutionalised population. The maximum margin of error is ą1.8%, with a 95% confidence level. The survey was commissioned by the Informat.ro news platform in partnership with the Strategic Thinking Group think tank.

Asked which party they would vote for if parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, 32% of women chose AUR, 23% the Social Democratic Party (PSD), 15% the National Liberal Party (PNL), 11% Save Romania Union (USR), 6% the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), 4% Health, Education, Nature, Sustainability Party (SENS) and 3% Young People’s Party (POT), while 2% expressed support for S.O.S. Romania. Another 2% of women would vote for another party, and 1% for an independent candidate.

Among men, 44% would vote for AUR, 16% for PSD, 14% for PNL, 13% for USR, 3% for UDMR, 3% for POT and 3% for SENS, while 2% would support S.O.S. Romania. Another 1% of men would vote for another party, and 1% for an independent candidate.

INSCOP Research Director Remus Stefureac highlighted that women and men relate differently to political parties, which suggests different values and social priorities.

‘While the male electorate shows a pronounced tendency towards parties with a radical discourse, the female electorate remains more cautious and balanced in its choices. Among men, this orientation indicates a crisis of representation and an acute need to revalidate the channels through which the electorate perceives political efficiency and authenticity. Among women, the more balanced choices reflect an attachment to pragmatic criteria – competence, stability, predictability – rather than to populist rhetoric,’ Stefureac explained. AGERPRES
