Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom says that his country is ready to provide more security in Europe and the world when it becomes a full member of the North Atlantic Alliance, Agerpres reports.
„We have clearly shown that we are ready now to face all the challenges, we are ready to provide, when we become full members, more security for Europe, for the world but, in particular, we also come with good equipment, with well-trained troops to strengthen the northern flank,” said the Swedish official, at the Palace of Parliament, on Wednesday, on the second day of the NATO Ministerial in Bucharest.
Billstrom emphasized NATO’s resilience and ambition to stand up to the Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as the cooperation between the NATO Alliance states.
He specified that he cannot give a precise timeframe for Sweden’s NATO accession until the Turkish Parliament ratifies the treaty, but noted that progress had been made at Tuesday’s meeting between Sweden, Finland and Turkey.
The Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers continues on Wednesday, in Bucharest. On the second day of the meeting, a new session of the North Atlantic Council will be held with Finland and Sweden, countries invited to join the organization, followed by a session in which the heads of diplomacy from the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, partner countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, will also join the discussions.
