UDMR will not be able, in its current form and in the situation Romania is in today, to support a government of which it is not part, Deputy Prime Minister and interim Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tanczos Barna said on Wednesday.

“In the current format and in the situation we are in today, Wednesday, 10 June, most likely we will not be able to support a government of which we are not part. We are waiting for the negotiations to be finalised, to see what the final version of the government programme is, the final lineup of ministers,” he said, when asked whether UDMR supports the Tomac Government.

Tanczos stressed that it is desirable for the Executive to be politically appointed, as a technocratic one is “a compromise solution”.

“A political government is desirable. A technocratic government is always a compromise solution, usually for a relatively short period. Let us see to what extent the major parties actually manage to reach an understanding. If we do not have support from the major political parties in Parliament, things will certainly not go towards a sufficient number of votes for it to pass. If extremist or anti-European parties support the Government, we will not support it. These are the red lines from our point of view,” Tanczos Barna said.
