Team Romania competing in the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (JBOI), held in Larnaca, Cyprus, won two silver and two bronze medals, according to the Ministry of Education and Research.
„Two silver medals and two bronze medals for Romania, at the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (JBOI), held between October 24-30, 2025 in Larnaca, Cyprus,” reads a social media post of the ministry.
All four students who represented Romania won medals: Rares Hanganu, Tudor Vianu National Collegiate High School of Informatics, Bucharest – silver medal (4th place), Andrei Nemtisor, Costache Negruzzi National Collegiate High School of Iasi – silver medal (6th place), Horia-Andrei Boeriu, Tudor Vianu National Collegiate High School of Informatics, Bucharest – bronze medal (10th place), Mihnea Petru Apostol, International Theoretical High School of Informatics, Bucharest – bronze medal (15th place).
The competition brought together 33 official participants from Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Moldova, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia, along with an unofficial team from the host country.
The leaders of the Romanian team were professor Emanuela Cerche of the Emil Racovita National Collegiate High School of in Iasi, the deputy chairman of the Society for Excellence and Performance in Informatics, and Alin Gabriel Rauleanu, student at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza Faculty of Informatics, University of Iasi.
„Congratulations to the students and coordinating teachers, to the parents and to all those who were with them on the way to performance!”, the Ministry of Education said.
The Ministry of Education and Research said that it supports the participation of national teams in the international Olympiads by covering the participation fees and travel costs, per diem related to the days of stay, as well as with the organisation and conduct of the stages preceding the international Olympiads – the local/county/municipal and national stages of these competitions.
