President Klaus Iohannis signed a series of decoration decrees, among those honored being the chiefs of Defense Staff from France, Spain, Italy and Portugal, according to Agerpres.
According to the Presidential Administration, the head of state conferred the National Order „Star of Romania” in the rank of commander, with the sign of peace, for the military, to general Thierry Burkhard, chief of the Defense Staff of the French Republic, and to admirals Teodoro Lopez Calderon, chief of Defense Staff of the Kingdom of Spain, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chief of the Defense Staff of the Italian Republic, and Antonio Silva Ribeiro, chief of the General Staff of the Portuguese Armed Forces.
President Iohannis decorated the four military as a sign of „high appreciation of the sustained interest in our country and the constant support given to Romania, for the promotion of international cooperation in order to successfully address the challenges of the new millennium”.
Also, as a sign of „high appreciation for the support given to our country, for the exceptional contribution to the support and promotion of bilateral relations”, the head of state conferred the National Order „Star of Romania” in the rank of commander, with the sign of peace, for the military, to admiral Juan Francisco Martinez Nunez, general secretary for defense policy in the Spanish Ministry of Defense, and colonel (r) Valeriu Mija, secretary of state in the field of defense policy, national defense planning and military interoperability in the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the National Order „Star of Romania” in the rank of commander, with peace insignia, for civilians, to Alice Guitton, director general for International and Strategic Relations in the Ministry of the French Armed Forces and to Celeste Wallander, deputy secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Department of Defense of the United States of America.
