Authorities in Chișinău have announced that the drone that crashed and exploded in the Orhei district is “most likely of Ukrainian origin,” according to preliminary information, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in ongoing discussions with authorities in Kyiv on this matter, MOLDPRES reports.
According to the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, regardless of the aircraft’s origin, ‘responsibility for any drone that lands on the territory of the Republic of Moldova lies with Russia, which has launched an illegal war in the neighboring country.’
‘We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainians who are fighting and losing their lives for the freedom of their country, but also for peace on the European continent, including peace in the Republic of Moldova,’ the ministry stated.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiga previously claimed in a post on the X platform that the drone that crashed on Moldovan territory was of Russian origin.
A drone exploded on the night of Sunday into Monday in the outskirts of the village of Lopatna, Orhei District. The alert was received around midnight from a local resident who observed the flying object and, shortly thereafter, an explosion. The area was immediately cordoned off, secured, and monitored in accordance with procedures. Authorities announced that no one was injured in the incident.
The Ministry of Defense in Chișinău stated that the discovered fragments are being analyzed to determine the origin of the aircraft and the circumstances of the incident. The responsible agencies are continuing to document the case and monitor the situation.
