The Ministry of Labour will appeal against the Bucharest Court of Appeal’s decision to suspend the procedure concerning the draft law on pay, interim Labour Minister Dragoș Pîslaru said on Wednesday.

He said the ministry will comply with the ruling, but will challenge the way it was issued, as the ministry’s representatives were not summoned.

“The Ministry of Labour takes note of the Bucharest Court of Appeal’s decision and will comply with it,” Dragoș Pîslaru said.

The interim minister explained that the institution did not initiate and will not initiate a formal legislative process on pay, because such a move would not be in line with the constitutional powers of the caretaker government. “At this point, there is no such process,” Pîslaru stressed.

The Ministry of Labour will nevertheless file an appeal, arguing that its representatives were not summoned in the proceedings held on Tuesday.

According to Dragoș Pîslaru, the institution is not challenging the substance of what the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled, but rather the procedure by which the court reached its decision.
