The leader of the European Greens supports Romania’s accession to Schengen

After the meeting in Bucharest with the leaders of the Green Party (Greens), Marius Lazăr and Lavinia Cosma, Co-President of the European Greens, MEP Thomas Waitz sends a strong message of support for Romania’s accession to Schengen.

Under European level we currently debating opening Schengen for Romania and Bulgaria. This is one of the main assets of our common European Union that everyone is able to travel, to work and to move without borders. We have heard extreme right politicians spreading all kind of fake news about populations of Bulgaria and Romania. I think they have never been there and never saw and met these countries. Us, Greens, we are clearly in favor of opening Schengen to all EU citizens, including Romania and Bulgaria, as soon as possible, MEP Thomas Waitz said.
