The Ministry of Finance (MF) borrowed 2.2 million lei from banks on Thursday through two government bond issues, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

Thus, the MF raised 1.07 billion lei through an issue with a residual maturity of 86 months, at an average yield of 6.84% per year. The issue’s face value was 700 million lei, and banks subscribed to 1.6 million lei.

An additional auction is scheduled for Friday, through which the government aims to raise another 161 million lei at the yield set on Thursday for the bonds.

In addition, the ministry raised 1.13 billion lei through an issuance of discount treasury certificates with a 12-month remaining maturity, at an average yield of 6.11% per year. The issue size was 1 billion lei, and banks subscribed for 1.3 billion lei.

The Ministry of Finance (MF) planned, in June 2026, loans from commercial banks totaling 7.6 billion lei, to which may be added 15% of the nominal value awarded at benchmark auctions, during supplementary non-competitive bidding sessions organized exclusively for benchmark instruments.

The amount of 7.6 billion lei provided for in the prospectuses for the issuance of discount treasury certificates and benchmark government bonds is 3 billion lei higher than the amount scheduled for May 2026, of 4.6 billion lei, and will be used for the refinancing and early repayment of public debt and the financing of the state budget deficit.
