Timisoara Mayor Dominic Fritz has become a Romanian citizen

Save Romania Union (USR) leader and Timisoara mayor Dominic Fritz has become a Romanian citizen after taking the oath of allegiance on Thursday, at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the National Authority for Citizenship.

„What an immense privilege to have been able to choose my love for this country. I have taken the oath of allegiance to Romania, whose citizen I am as of today. Thank you, Romania, for your open arms, for your inspiring potential, for your boundless energy. Thank you, Timisoara, for being my home,” Dominic Fritz wrote on his Facebook page.

On 13 November, Fritz, who also holds German citizenship, announced that he had passed the interview stage and received a positive decision for obtaining Romanian citizenship.

„Romania, it’s official — I am one of yours! I have passed the interview and received a positive decision for obtaining Romanian citizenship. Thank you, Romania, for welcoming me into your home 22 years ago. You made me an adult, you made me European, you made me more resilient, warmer, more inventive. And now you have made me Romanian in every legal sense. The oath will follow at the next opportunity. Long live Romania, long live Europe!” he wrote on social media at the time. AGERPRES
