Designated Prime Minister Eugen Tomac said on Tuesday, regarding AUR’s move to suspend President Nicuşor Dan, that, obviously, Russia wants Romania to remain unstable, and that he has nothing more to say.

“I believe we need responsible action, in relation to citizens and to the status Romania has, in an extremely complex context full of vulnerabilities,” designated Prime Minister Eugen Tomac said in Parliament when asked about AUR leader George Simion’s initiative to begin proceedings to suspend President Nicuşor Dan from office.

“Obviously, Russia wants Romania to remain unstable, and from that point of view I have nothing more to say,” Tomac added.

AUR leader George Simion on Tuesday ran a Facebook poll on whether to start proceedings in Parliament to suspend President Nicuşor Dan.

The leader of the AUR senators and president of the AUR National Leadership Council, Petrişor Peiu, said the party does not have the necessary number of signatures for this move, because it has 90 parliamentarians, could get another 30, but is still short of the remaining signatures needed to reach 155.

Asked whether he could enter into dialogue with AUR as well, the designated prime minister replied: “I have no reason to discuss with parties that vote against Romania’s national interest. And I want to be very clear here. I respect the opinion and the vote of every Romanian citizen. Everyone is free in this country to vote as they see fit. However, I will never accept and I will never understand parties that, through concrete actions, act against the national interest. And AUR has had such behaviour on several occasions. And this issue, obviously, is not negotiable.”
