The designated prime minister, Eugen Tomac, said on Thursday that he is very optimistic, even after the decision announced by the PNL, and that those who stand with Romania are welcome to join him, Agerpres reports.

“I understood the PNL’s message and I respect it. You have decided to go into opposition, very well, but give up the demagoguery. Because, if I look at the political arithmetic in Parliament, we all know that even the dismissed government was voted in by the PSD. We don’t need lessons from anyone. I am determined to go on, and I am indeed very optimistic. And those who stand with Romania are welcome to join me,” Tomac said in a video message posted on Facebook.

The PNL has decided not to support the investiture of the government proposed by designated prime minister Eugen Tomac, the party’s chairman, Ilie Bolojan, announced on Thursday.

“After analysing the political context, the PNL has decided not to support the investiture of this government. As a result of this decision, the parliamentary groups will not take part in the vote or will be ‘Present, not voting’. Why did we take this decision? First of all, because, given the situation in which we have a government without explicit political support, and therefore without explicit parliamentary support, this government does not have the strength to carry on the reforms needed for Romania and, therefore, is not a governing solution at this time,” Bolojan explained after the extended meeting of the party’s National Political Bureau.
