Total value traded at BVB, 15.64 billion RON in H1 2024, up 82% vs H1 2023

The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) reported a total traded value of 15.64 billion RON on the regulated market and SMT, representing an increase of 82% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Report on the evolution of the capital market by the Romanian Supervisory Authority.

The number of transactions increased by 73% in the first quarter of 2024, and the stock market capitalization on the regulated market reached 339.9 billion RON, an increase of approximately 60% compared to June 2023.

According to the quoted source, the regulated market of BVB dominated the trading activity, representing 96.9% of the total value, the remaining part being traded on SMT. Shares remained the dominant class of assets, constituting 61.76% of the total traded value. Transactions with state securities reached approximately 2.3 billion RON, an increase compared to the previous year.

At the end of the second quarter of 2024, 27 brokers were active on the BVB regulated market, including 17 Financial Services and Investment Companies (SSIF), 7 entities authorized in other EU member states and 3 local credit institutions. As to the intermediated volumes, the financial investment services firms were the most active, managing transactions that totaled approximately 17.9 billion RON.

Looking from the perspective of the origin of the capital, local actors, including both SSIFs and banks, dominated the market, being responsible for approximately 87% of the total intermediated value. Investment firms originating from other EU member states managed to capture a significant portion of the market, reaching a share of 10.47% of the total traded volume.

The evaluation of the performance of the capital market in Romania at the end of H1 2024 highlighted an upward trend of the stock market indices, compared to the reference period from the end of the previous year. The BET index, which reflects the evolution of the most traded companies on the BVB Regulated Market, recorded a significant appreciation. Quantified as a percentage, this reference index registered an increase of 18.7% on June 30, 2024, compared to its closing value from the last trading session of 2023.
