Romania had 14,325 tourist accommodation facilities as of 31 July 2025, 5.8% more than in the same period in 2024, while the number of available places reached 464,354, marking an increase of 3.2%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published on Friday.
Hotels hold the largest accommodation capacity in Romania, totaling 211,369 bed-places, meaning nearly half of the overall total (45.5%). Of these, 82.6% are 3- and 4-star hotels. The most numerous are 3-star hotels (54.5% of the total), followed by 4-star (28.1%) and 2-star (12.9%) hotels. There were 51 five-star hotels (two more compared to 31 July 2024).
Apartments and rental rooms accounted for 34.7% of all accommodation facilities, most of them classified as 3-star (70.7% of the total number of apartments and rental rooms).
According to the INS data, Constanta county had the highest number of tourist accommodation facilities. The top three counties, ranked by the total number of accommodation structures (including apartments and rental rooms), were Constanta (1,752 facilities), Brasov (1,395) and Suceava (866). Constanta also accounted for the largest share (26.5%) of all rooms in tourist accommodation facilities (excluding rooms in holiday cottages), followed by Brasov (7.7%) and Bucharest (6.6%).
Of the total number of tourist accommodation bed-places, Constanta county held 26.3%, Brasov 7.8%, followed by Bucharest with 6.0%.
„Of the total of 213,100 rooms available in tourist accommodation facilities as of July 31, 2025 (excluding rooms in cottages), 105,000 (49.3%) were in hotels,” according to the INS.
The „Coastal area, excluding Constanta city” offered 117,245 bed-places out of the total 464,354, followed by Bucharest and county capitals, excluding Tulcea city (105,837 bed-places), other localities and tourist routes (100,745), mountain resorts (89,815), spa resorts (40,072) and the Danube Delta area (including Tulcea city) (10,640).
According to the INS data, a strong growth rate was recorded among apartments and rental rooms, which account for 34.7% of all accommodation facilities (4,968 units, 12.6% more than in 2024).
Agro-tourism guesthouses also continued to develop, reaching 3,668 facilities and 61,024 bed-places. AGERPRES
