Trade in motorcycles and motor vehicles contributed to a 2.2% increase in the turnover volume of wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, as gross series, in the first eight months of this year compared to the same period in 2023, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) released on Friday.
The official data reveal that, in the period January 1 – August 31, 2024, as gross series, increases in business were reported in: trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+18.8%), trade in motor vehicle parts and accessories (+7.8%) and trade in motor vehicles (+2.7%). On the other hand, activities in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles decreased 15.4%.
In the same period, the volume of turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, as series adjusted for the number of working days and seasonality, increased 2.2%.
According to the source, in August this year compared to August 2023, the turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, as a gross series, increased 0.1%, due to the results of trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+21.9%), trade of parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+1.7%) and trade of motor vehicles (+1.4%). In contrast, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles decreased 13.7%.
On an adjusted basis, during the same comparison period, total turnover in wholesale and retail trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased 2.7%.
On a month-on-month basis (August vs July 2024), turnover in trade in motor vehicles fell 11.5% on gross series, but was on an upward trend (+0.3%) on adjusted series.
