Trade Register: Number of insolvencies up 15pct January through November

The number of companies that entered insolvency increased by 15.31% in the first 11 months of 2024, up to 41,093, compared to 35,591 in the same period last year, according to data centralized by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).

Most insolvencies were registered in Bucharest, respectively 8,167 companies (number increasing by 8.79% compared to the period January-November 2023) and in the counties of Ilfov (2,250, plus 34.65%), Constanta (2,218, plus 31.48%) and Cluj (2,174, plus 17.51%).

At the opposite side of the scale, the fewest company dissolutions were recorded in the counties of Ialomita, respectively 212 (plus 11.58% compared to the first 11 months of 2023), Covasna (215, plus 18.78%), Mehedinti (261, plus 11.54%), Caras-Severin (284, plus 12.25%) and Calarasi (298, 0%).

The field of activity that recorded the most company dissolutions, during the period January – November 2024, is wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, where 11,283 dissolutions were reported at the national level. Compared to the same period of the previous year, dissolutions in this sector increased by 12.44%.

According to the same source, constructions, professional, scientific and technical activities, as well as the manufacturing industry are other areas of activity where a large number of company dissolutions were recorded, respectively 4,142 (+22.36%), 4,024 (+17.35%) and 3,428 (+12.17%).

In November 2024, 5,603 company dissolutions were recorded, most in Bucharest (1,229) and in the counties of Constanta (353), Ilfov (350), Cluj (322) and Timis (222).
