Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu stated on Friday that the works have begun at the most important investment in history of the Timisoara Airport, of approximately 22 million EUR, through which, within a year, the External Departures Terminal shall be built, according to Agerpres.
He stated that he wants for the respective terminal to be one of departures to Schengen.
„The works have started at what means the most important investment in history, at the Timisoara Airport. It is part of the amounts earmarked this year by the Transport Ministry to the Timisoara International Airport and we are talking about the new departures Terminal. I wish for the builders to observe the deadlines, so that, at the end of next year, we can have the reception of this work. I wish for this Departures Terminal to be one for departures to Schengen, and we, Romanians, no longer need customs,” Sorin Grindeanu stated.
The contract is worth 88.99 million RON (without the VAT) and the funding is ensured form three sources, namely form non-reimbursable European funds (2014-2021 Large Infrastructure Operational Programme -POIM), the state budget and the airport’s own revenues.
The new terminal will have a constructed area of 12,000 square meters, six security filters, 18 check-in desks and six automatic document scanning gates.
The Minister of Transport mentioned that he wants the new investment to help the development of the airport, and the builder to meet the set deadlines.
The new construction will complement the External Arrivals Terminal, which has already been operational since 29 July 2021 and involved an investment of 30.35 million RON, non-refundable European funds, from the state budget and from the airport’s own revenues.
