Turnover in hairdressing and other beauty services surges 18.7% in H1 2025

The turnover for market services provided to the population, in gross series, was 0.2% higher in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year, due to increased business in hairdressing and other beauty services, the washing and (dry) cleaning of textiles and fur products, as well as activities in the hotel and restaurant sector.

According to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Thursday, turnover in hairdressing and other beauty services surged 18.7%, the washing and (dry) cleaning of textiles and fur products increased 5.1%, and the hotel and restaurant sector recorded a growth of 1.5%.

Decreases were recorded in the activities of travel agencies and tour operators (-13.2%) and in gambling and other recreational activities (-5.4%).

However, when adjusted for the number of working days and seasonality, the turnover for market services provided to the population fell 0.1% in the January-June 2025 period.

In June, the gross turnover for market services provided to the population increased 1.5% year-on-year, driven by growth in hairdressing and other beauty services (+10.7%), gambling and other recreational activities (+4.3%), and the hotel and restaurant sector (+0.8%). Decreases were seen in the washing and (dry) cleaning of textiles and fur products (-2.3%) and in the activities of travel agencies and tour operators (-1.7%).

In seasonally and calendar-adjusted terms, the turnover for market services provided to the population in June 2025 rose 2.5% compared to June 2024.

Compared to May 2025, turnover volume rose by 7%, due to increases in the activities of travel agencies and tour operators (+32.2%) and the hotel and restaurant sector (+10%). Decreases were recorded in gambling and other recreational activities (-5.4%), hairdressing and other beauty services (-2%), and the washing and (dry) cleaning of textiles and fur products (-1.2%).

The volume of turnover in market services provided to the population, adjusted for working days and seasonality, increased 0.1% in June 2025 compared to the previous month.
