Two Ukrainian citizens, investigated for illegal crossing of the Romanian border and fish poaching

Two Ukrainian citizens are being investigated for illegal crossing of the state border and poaching, after they were detected by the border police while they were fishing, with the help of a boat, near the Romanian shore of the Chilia branch, the Coast Guard informed on Wednesday, write Agerpres.

According to a press release sent by the representatives of the Coast Guard, border police officers from the Chilia Border Police Sector intercepted a Ukrainian boat in the Romanian territorial waters of the Chilia arm, approximately 15 meters from the shore, in which there were two Ukrainian citizens, who carried out fishing activities with the help of nets.

„Following additional checks, it was found that the length of the mono-filament net is 265 meters and the amount of fish held is 10 kilograms. The two people, together with the boat, the nets and the captured fish were taken to the police headquarters for investigations.

The entire amount of fish was handed over to a specialized commercial company, and the nets, the boat worth 4,500 RON and the related engine worth 6,800 RON were picked up for confiscation by the border police and put in the crime scene room of the institution,” the press release states.

After the checks carried out jointly with the Ukrainian authorities in the case of the border event, according to the legal provisions, the two persons were handed over to them.

The border police, under the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office next to the Tulcea Court, are investigating the crimes of illegal crossing of the state border and fish poaching.
