The the Romanian-Moldo-German Cultural Center „Dumitru Dorin Prunariu” in Nuremberg, Germany, has managed to get twice in the Guinness World Records for the longest Romanian traditional waist belt handmade in three months, measuring 1,667.41 meters and also the heaviest, weighing 70 kilograms.
The Romanian traditional waist belt was measured a day ago by a commission from the Guinness World Records in the center of Nuremberg’s Jakobsplatz.
„Romanians from all over the world made history in Nuremberg! We got into the record book twice: first, for the longest Romanian traditional waist belt handmade in 3 months – 1667.41 meters. Second, for the heaviest traditional waist belt weighing 70 kilograms. On this occasion, we would like to thank all those who were actively involved in making this traditional waist belt, my colleagues Valentina Banu and Daniela Lostun, as well as the hundreds of people who had the patience to stand with us today during the measurement, which lasted more than three hours,” coordinator of the Dacia e.V. Association in Germany and of the Romanian-Moldo-German Cultural Center in Nuremberg Ionela van Rees-Zota wrote on Facebook.
The start of the project was given on February 24, 2024, on Dragobete, when the Romanian-Moldo-German Cultural Center „Dumitru Dorin Prunariu” in Nuremberg launched an invitation to all Romanians from all over the world to sew, weave, handcraft a traditional waist belt of at least one meter, which they would have to send to Nuremberg by June 23, one day before the Universal Day of Romanian Blouse.
„There were many organizations from many countries, from New Zealand to the Republic of Moldova, and more than 1,000 people gathered, because there are associations, there are Romanian quilting-bees from all countries and from Romania, bringing tother hundreds of people or dozens of people and they wove as much as each one could. From one meter up. We had associations that sent 40 meters. Two records were set. It is the longest Romanian traditional waist belt handmade by Romanians from all over the world, but also the heaviest, because it was weighed,” Ionela van Rees-Zota told AGERPRES on Monday.
Each person who contributed to this record was able to choose a favorite model for the belt they made, the only requirement was that it had to be 7-8 centimeters wide and at least 1.5 meters long.
The organizers of the action for the Guinness World Records were the Romanian-Moldo-German Cultural Centre „Dumitru Dorin Prunariu” in Nuremberg, Valentina Banu EU-RO Connect Consulting and Daniela Lostun, the Romanian Quilting bee Nuremberg.
