U.S. Embassy in Romania is taking important steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Published on

The U.S. Embassy in Romania is taking important steps towards the common goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the ambassador of the United States of America in Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec said on Monday.

The message was sent by the diplomatic mission in the context of marking the World Electric Vehicles Day – a day dedicated to highlighting the benefits of electric vehicles and accelerating the global transition towards sustainable transport.

The embassy’s growing fleet of electric vehicles contributes to our environmental goals while highlighting American innovation and green technology. We are proud to help fulfill President Biden’s pledge to cut greenhouse gas pollution in half until 2030, the ambassador pointed out.

According to a release from the U.S. Embassy sent to AGERPRES, starting in 2021, the diplomatic mission began to replace gasoline vehicles with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and over the course of three years, these vehicles reduced CO2 emissions by over 3,700 kilograms.

Earlier this year, the diplomatic mission purchased two more plug-in hybrid vehicles to replace three gasoline vehicles in its fleet, „important achievements that show the embassy’s commitment to support the local community to mitigate the effects of climate change.”

The perspective of the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest in 2025 is to further expand the fleet of ecological vehicles, by replacing more gasoline vehicles with environmentally friendly cars.

„With these new purchases, we estimate an annual reduction in CO2 emissions of over 6,200 kilograms. This change underlines our commitment to be responsible guests in Romania, strengthening our shared values. On World Electric Vehicle Day, we celebrate these achievements and we reaffirm our commitment to reduce the impact on the environment by means of innovative and sustainable transport solutions”, underline the representatives of the diplomatic mission.
