Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Chairman Kelemen Hunor said in a press conference in Arad on Sunday, regarding the annulment of Diana Sosoaca’s candidacy by Romania’s Constitutional Court (CCR), that the electorate should decide and not the state institutions, and that any person who has not been convicted should have the right to run for office.
Asked whether the situation in which Sosoaca finds herself could amplify this sovereignist current that he represents, he replied: „I don’t know, people are furious, Sosoaca’s electorate is certainly very angry at the moment, it is an electorate very attached to Mrs. Sosoaca and what she will do we will see, but I don’t think that at the moment there is a politician or political analyst who can say where those votes that can no longer be gathered by Diana Sosoaca will go to.”
The UDMR chair said that he does not agree with Diana Sosoaca „on any issue.”
