Siegfried Mureșan continues to seek the support needed to form a parliamentary majority, given that he has ten days from his designation to present the government programme and the list of ministers, realitatea.net reports.
Sources cited by Realitatea PLUS say that the prime minister-designate intends to go as far as the vote in a joint sitting of Parliament, even if he does not have the 233 votes needed to invest the new government secured in advance. At the same time, UDMR is telling him that, if he fails to secure the necessary votes, he should hand back his mandate. This position comes as PSD and AUR have announced that they will not support the government proposed by Siegfried Mureșan.
The prime minister-designate must prepare the government programme and the list of future ministers, and secure the necessary support in Parliament. The new government requires 233 votes to be invested, while negotiations to form a majority continue. Sources cited by Realitatea PLUS say that Siegfried Mureșan will see the procedure through and ask Parliament for a vote of confidence even if, before the plenary sitting, he does not have confirmation of the 233 votes.
PSD unanimously decided not to support the government led by Siegfried Mureșan, while AUR, for its part, said that it would not vote for a government that continued the austerity measures begun under the Bolojan government. Under these circumstances, without the votes of PSD and AUR MPs, the parties currently supporting the new government do not have the majority required for its investiture on their own.
UDMR is also monitoring developments in the negotiations to form a majority. If Siegfried Mureșan were unable to secure additional support from Parliament as well, the position conveyed is that the prime minister-designate should hand back his mandate. For now, however, according to information obtained by Realitatea PLUS, the scenario being considered is for the procedure to continue until the vote in a joint sitting of the two chambers, even though the required majority is not secured at present.
