Chairwoman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies Biro Rozalia-Ibolya (Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania, UDMR Bihor), declared on Wednesday, in a press conference in Oradea, that the next parliamentary session will start with a dialogue with the Romanian ambassador to Austria, Emil Hurezeanu, as well as with the representatives of the Austrian Embassy in Romania, according to Agerpres.
„Chancellor Nehammer made some statements with which, from our point of view, we cannot agree. I believe that, from the point of view of the criteria that had to be met, Austria’s decision was unfounded and unjustified. The reasoning brought by Mr. Chancellor – given that I’m an economist and I look at the figures – does not hold up. It was not warranted. Any of us can throw out claims. But in a Europe so full of tension, every politician must have maximum responsibility in relation to what he says. Because our goal must be not to create additional tension,” said deputy Biro Rozalia.
The UDMR parliamentarian added that, in the tense situation generated by the war, it is essential to strengthen the alliances within the European Union and sit down at the dialogue table.
She recalled the statements in favor of Romania and Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area made by European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who pointed out the „exceptional and positive results” of the two countries regarding the fulfillment of all the necessary requirements.
Chairwoman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Chamber of Deputies considers that the situation generated by this „unjustified and illegal war of Russia on Ukraine” also affected Austria and the Netherlands’ stance regarding the Schengen area enlargement, which places on a secondary or tertiary level the Union’s attention to work on its unity.
