UDMR’s Csoma: We categorically reject the attacks of AUR, a chauvinistic party unable to govern Romania

The Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) categorically rejects the statements made by national leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanian (AUR) George Simion that UDMR isUDMR’s Csoma: We categorically reject the attacks of AUR, a chauvinistic party, unable to govern Romania „a cultural union, an ethnic terrorist that blocks any form of making the local administration more efficient,” UDMR Chamber of Deputies floor leader Csoma Botond said on Thursday, calling AUR a chauvinistic party incapable of governing Romania, write Agerpres.

„I firmly reject that accusation of ‘ethnic terrorism.’ I believe that the new slippage of AUR shows that AUR is a chauvinistic and stupid political party. Of course, he did not bring any argument to back up his statement, because he had none when saying such nonsense. And in connection with the territorial reorganisation, the AUR leader lied: UDMR has never opposed such reorganisation. We said that a thorough analysis must be done. This territorial administrative reform appeared in Romanian politics only at the level of statements. No one did an analysis of how it should be done. There were some general statements. I don’t think that an administrative-territorial reform should be carried out in this way [without an analysis],” Csoma told AGERPRES.

According to him, AUR does not have a coherent agenda for Romania and so it comes up with „chauvinistic” attacks, especially because the election campaign is nearing.

„AUR has this element of chauvinism; it often attacks the Hungarian community and UDMR. It is not the first time that the AUR leader does it – he will do it again. Unfortunately, as the election approaches, we will witness more chauvinistic attacks from AUR because they are incapable of governing this country, although they claim they want to. They have no ideas, no coherent agenda to govern Romania. And when you have no opinion, you don’t know what to do and come up with attacks of this kind,” said Csoma.

AUR national leader George Simion on Wednesday said UDMR is „blocking any form of making the local administration more efficient,” adding that the „desire” of UDMR „to have a region inside Romania” will never happen.

„I want to publicly accuse the formation that has prevented any form of efficiency of the Romanian state. It is called UDMR, a cultural union, an ethnic terrorist that blocks any form of efficiency of the local administration, wanting to keep the ethnic Hungarians from the counties of Covasna, Harghita and Mures captive and imposing (…) a possible autonomous region. We say clearly that we are against the regionalisation of Romania, but we need efficiency in the administration, a more flexible organisation and never, not even in the most beautiful dreams of UDMR, that desire of theirs to have a region inside Romania will happen,” Simion told a news conference.
