The president of UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians of Romania), Kelemen Hunor, on Monday told a press conference in Cluj-Napoca, that his party obtained the best results in elections in the last 20 years.

„We can state without exaggeration that since 2004 this is the best result that we got in all types of elections. This new success is a victory and it is the victory of our electorate in the first place, of our community. At the vote count of about 99%, as far as we have counted until now, we have 566,000 votes on the European Parliament lists, that means 6.5% and it certainly means two mandates in the European Parliament,” said Kelemen Hunor.

He also mentioned that UDMR has approximately 200 mayors and four presidents of county councils.

„Besides these data, we have 200 mayors, 199 definitely elected mayors, and four presidents of county councils. There are 6-7 mayors who ran as independent candidates and were elected with our support, perhaps the most famous is the mayor from Targu Mures,” Kelemen Hunor also said.
