The president of the UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania), Kelemen Hunor, on Tuesday stated that he excludes the possibility that the motion of censure submitted to Parliament by AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romania), S.O.S. Romania and POT (Young People’s Party) will be adopted.
He was warned, in an interview with Antena 3 private television channel, that there are voices saying there are chances that the motion of censure will pass because betrayals will appear in the government camp, but Kelemen emphasised that this cannot happen.
„There is no way. So, those who submitted the motion of censure must bring the necessary votes. It is not the governing coalition that must bring the votes. So, we will be present in the hall, those who will come, and we will say: „Present. I do not vote.” There is no way that betrayal will appear, nor the votes from the coalition, nor does the USR support it. So, this motion of censure will not pass. There is no way,” stated the UDMR leader.
At the same time, when asked if he believes that there will be a motion of censure after the presidential elections and the government will change, Kelemen Hunor mentioned that this will not happen in the current parliamentary session, and then it may depend on who the new president will be.
„There will be no censure motion before September, because it is impossible. Now they have filed a censure motion, that is for this session. (…) If Georgescu comes, of course he will want (to change the government – editor’s note). If Antonescu comes, then I don’t think he will have this desire, because he has no reason to,” argued the UDMR leader.
The censure motion was read on Tuesday in the plenary session of the Parliament, and is to be debated on Friday by another plenary session.
