PSD (Social Democratic Party) MPs voting in favour of the simple motion in the Senate against the Minister of Environment will most likely be among the items on the agenda of Wednesday’s governing coalition meeting, UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians of Romania) chair Kelemen Hunor said on Tuesday.
He reiterated that the vote was a mistake on the part of some members of the governing coalition, but he insisted that there is no risk of the coalition breaking up.
„If we read the coalition protocol strictly, it says: ‘the coalition members will not sign and will not vote on simple and censure motions’. So, from this point of view, yes, what happened yesterday (Monday – editor’s note) in the Senate, and what I have in mind right now is the cohesion of the coalition, was a mistake. But I cannot tell you more, because everyone makes their own strategy,” Kelemen Hunor said in Parliament.
He underscored that there is no risk of the coalition breaking up: „There is none (such risk – editor’s note). The coalition is moving forward. There is no risk of breaking up. (…) The coalition is not breaking up, you can all stay calm (in respect to that matter – editor’s note)”.
„I understand their anger (…), I understand that there must be consequences. (…) Romania cannot remain a country where there are no consequences, no matter what happens,” added Kelemen Hunor.
In the opinion of the UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians of Romania) president, the coalition can continue to function „based on a joint effort”.
„Because, yes, there were elections in Bucharest, there were various issues that pushed us into this unpleasant situation, the way I see things. But we need to overcome this phase and I hope that, after we elected the mayor of the capital city, the other issues that were under discussion are also closed, so that we will be able to make a decision by the end of the year and prepare for next year’s budget,” Kelemen Hunor said.
The simple motion against the Minister of the Environment was adopted, on Monday, by the Senate plenum, with 74 votes cast „in favour”, 43 „against” and one abstention. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was also present at the debate on the motion. AGERPRES
