Independent Member of the European Parliament Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI) offers his analysis following the success of the no-confidence motion: Bolojan is going home, we want early elections!, he says, wondering whether the PSD truly wants to face the Romanian people, or prefers to play both sides again, as usual.

Bolojan is pretending he’d go into opposition, but he actually wants to stay in government—only it’s no longer possible, because nobody wants you anymore, man, Bolovane.

And, of course, between the two options, the PSD wants to keep governing with them, but without Bolojan. Man, this is a huge mess. You know why? Because you don’t know something very important.

Namely, that this SAFE must be completed by May 3rd and 1st. We’re in May, as far as I recall, right? Well, I want early elections. If I wanted early elections and if the whole early election thing were to happen, the SAFE wouldn’t exist anymore.

Or, at least, it wouldn’t apply anymore. That’s what you’d think, right? No, that’s not the case. The PSD and PNL, in fact, agreed that SAFE must start immediately and even voted for 9 billion out of 17.

Those 17 billion-something that you’ll have to carry on your backs until the cows come home. When you’ll have to pay it all back, right? Well, that’s the struggle. Over this SAFE program, which has to be spent in just a few weeks.

That’s what this is all about. And they’re still making a fuss. I want early elections.

I repeat. So a majority has been formed, and now, why don’t we move forward? Let’s move forward with this majority and call for early elections. I’ve just witnessed a political spectacle whose script I already knew. Only the cast varied a little. I saw lawmakers who, just yesterday, were in consultations, in reflection, listening to the voice of the people. Today, suddenly, they had a revelation.

Extraordinary. They voted for the motion. Almost touching. But let’s be serious. It wasn’t principles that enlightened them overnight, but rather the lack of an offer compelling enough to make them step aside. Bolovane, you didn’t know how to make them an offer, did you? Because if it were a matter of conscience, they would have discovered it much earlier

We didn’t witness a moral uprising, but a failed negotiation. And now comes the question that really matters, doesn’t it? What’s next? I want early elections. I repeat. Or are they inconvenient for some? Does the PSD truly want to face the Romanian people? Or do they prefer to play both sides again, as usual, right? I want a new alliance, maybe with AUR? Or was the whole movement just a classic operation? We cut off the fish’s head.

We cut off its head, because you know the fish rots from the head down. And we quietly return to governing with the same team, behind the scenes. It all starts here, in Brussels.”
