During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, independent MEP Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI) delivered a speech in which he stated that “there is a desire to federalize Europe and abandon the principle of ‘Unity in Diversity,’ for how else can there be federalization if not by abandoning our traditions, our customs, our religion, and everything that constitutes national identity.”

Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI), in Strasbourg:

“Mr. President, dear colleagues, I believe it is very likely that this discussion will go down in the history of debates in the European Parliament, because I observe that we are finally witnessing the unveiling of your plans.

I have long said that the goal is the federalization of Europe and the abandonment of the principle of ‘Unity in Diversity,’ for how else can there be federalization if not by renouncing our traditions, our customs, our religion, and everything that constitutes national identity?

Now I hear about reforms to the treaties, I hear about changing the treaties. Very well, change them, but change them for the sovereignty of the states that make up this European Union. Because, as the colleague who initiated this oral question said, no country can be independent in any way. I disagree with you, sir, Romania was energy-independent, and you’ve been using the Green Deal to shut down our mines, shut down our thermal power plants, and drive our people into exile across the European Union or to other countries, so that we are no longer energy-independent.”
