Unaffiliated MEP Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI), speech from the rostrum of the European Parliament: ‘I have presented to the US Congress the case for annulment of the Romanian elections’

Published on

Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI), an independent member of the European Parliament, made a series of serious allegations during a plenary session of the European Parliament, revealing that he had recently made an official visit to Washington. He claims that he met with members of the House Judiciary Committee of the U.S. Congress, to whom hehanded a “huge dossier” detailing the irregularities observed in Romania’s electoral process at the end of 2024, according to realitatea.net.

Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI) emphasized that, in Romania, candidates were barred from the presidential election in the absence of final court rulings, and that the annulment of the election was publicly justified by citing “Russian interference.” However, the MEP noted that, to date, no one has presented concrete evidence to support the claims made by officials—including those of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken—regarding Moscow’s influence on the Romanian vote.

In the same speech, Independent MEP Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI) raised the issue of possible interference by European officials in foreign policy, citing a report concerning the activities of former European Commission Vice-President Vera Jourova. According to the MEP, during an official meeting with the head of TikTok, the latter allegedly asked Jourova whether the discussion should focus on the elections in the European Union or those in the United States.

Non-attached Member of the European Parliament Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI) suggested that a high-ranking Brussels official’s interest in the U.S. electoral process constitutes evidence of interference.

“Why did she want to talk about the U.S. elections? Isn’t this clear evidence of interference by a Vice-President of the European Commission?” asked Luis Lazarus (NI) from the Parliament’s rostrum, requesting clarification on how European and American institutions collaborate in managing democratic processes.
