Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI), an independent member of the European Parliament, following investigations he conducted into the European Commission’s interference in elections in several countries, including Romania and the United States, has made serious revelations on the program “Behind the Scenes of the Parallel State” on Realitatea Plus.
Independent Member of the European Parliament Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI) described in detail a strategic visit to Washington, where he submitted a dossier on the political realities in Romania, and accused the authorities in Bucharest of using his initiative to cover up a major crisis, wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on unnecessary lobbying contracts, writes realitatea.net.
Luis Lazarus revealed that he went directly to the heart of power in Washington to present clear evidence of political interference in Romania’s electoral process.
“I also wanted to speak with the House Judiciary Committee in the U.S. Congress. We all sat there at the table; I presented them with the Romanian Papers, a file so large—you saw it too, I put it on the table. I told them I wanted a written confirmation from them stating that I had left the file with the documentation there. Before meeting with them, for about three weeks, we exchanged emails, which I can make available to anyone who wants to see them.”
According to the MEP, the reaction of the U.S. officials was one of complete openness, as they were surprised by the information they received.
“After I left—they were enthusiastic that everything was in order, that they would investigate and directly analyze the discussion we had about Blinken, since they didn’t know that Blinken had spoken on the 5th, and on the 6th the elections were canceled (so that was the signal sent from Washington, from the Democratic administration, and so on)—the next day, that is, Friday (this happened on Thursday), Nicușor Dan shows up at a press conference somewhere—I don’t remember exactly where—and says that this issue with the elections has been resolved.”
Lazarus questions the speed with which the crisis was supposedly resolved overnight and suspects a behind-the-scenes maneuver in which he was used as a pawn.
“When did you resolve it, and how? Because on Thursday it wasn’t resolved! On Friday, they said it was resolved. The contract he showed clearly indicates that absolutely nothing has been resolved. So, I have the feeling that they used me as a ‘bogeyman’ and said: ‘Gentlemen, hold on a minute, that guy was here, look, he presented us with a set of documents, so-and-so… gentlemen, what are you doing there?’ And they must have promised their mothers, their fathers, and anything else, just to get this issue resolved. As proof, he was invited again afterward to that wonderful peace council. It’s true that he wanted to get closer and was pulled away like a little puppy by one of Trump’s bodyguards. After that, everything was fine with the Americans; we didn’t have any more problems, and today I find out that a contract is being drawn up.”
Continuing his speech on Realitatea Plus, Luis Lazarus lambasted the performance of Romanian diplomacy overseas, singling out Ambassador Andrei Muraru and the foreign minister. The MEP also brought up Liviu Dragnea’s criminal record to highlight the double standard.
“This contract shows Ambassador Muraru’s impotence in Washington, because it’s not in our best interest. We’re paying a fortune for your expertise, plus that of the foreign minister, who supposedly met with Rubio and whoever else she met with. Why did you meet? Why did you meet if you didn’t get anything done? What do you mean, a big-shot president throwing… or paying millions for what? On lobbying? Seriously? Well, Dragnea went to jail, man, and they piled 7,000 problems on him—and I’m not a fan of Dragnea, I never liked him.”
Finally, Lazarus explained the real reason why the authorities in Bucharest would have decided to bring this controversial contract to light themselves, for fear that the truth might come from the American side, where transparency is total.
“So, they have nothing to do with it. They thought: ‘Hey, wait a minute, what if this contract surfaces and the State Department makes it public somewhere?’ because with the Americans, everything is transparent—it doesn’t work that way. “If the contract shows up somewhere, do you know what we’ll do? Can you imagine what a massive blunder that would be? Let’s just make it public ourselves,” concluded Luis Lazarus.
