The unemployment rate in Romania was 5.2% in December 2024, seasonally adjusted, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous month, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Thursday.
The unemployment rate for men was 0.4 percentage points higher than for women.
The estimated number of unemployed people (aged 15-74) in December 2024 was 428,600, down from the previous month (435,600) and also lower than the same period last year (458,900).
By gender, the unemployment rate for men exceeded that for women by 0.4 percentage points (the values were 5.4% for men and 5.0% for women).
INS notes that the unemployment rate for young people (ages 15-24) remains high at 25.3% in the period from July to September 2024.
For adults (ages 25-74), the unemployment rate was estimated at 4% in December 2024 (4.1% for men and 3.9% for women).
The number of unemployed people aged 25-74 accounted for 72.7% of the total estimated number of unemployed individuals in December 2024.
