Unemployment rate in Romania rises to 5.8pct in May 2025, youth unemployment remains high

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Romania was 5.8% in May 2025, up 0.1% month-on-month, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Male unemployment was 0.3% higher than female unemployment, 5.9% to 5.5%.

The number of unemployed (aged 15-74) estimated for May 2025 was 470,500, up from the previous month (467,400 people) and up year-on-year from 441,100.

According to INS, the high level of 24.8% of the unemployment rate among young people (15-24 years old), recorded between January and March 2025, continues to be noteworthy.

Adult unemployment rate was estimated at 4.6% in May 2025 (4.7% for men and 4.3% for women).

The number of unemployed aged 25-74 years made up 74.1% of the total number of the unemployed estimated for May 2025.
