The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 5.5% in August, up by 0.1 percentage points from July 2024, according to data published Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (NIS).

„By gender, the unemployment rate in men exceeded that in women by 0.7 percentage points (5.8% in men and 5.1% in women). The high unemployment rate among young people (15-24 years) of 23.2% remains a cause for concern,” says the cited source.

The number of unemployed people (aged 15-74) was 452,300 in August, up from both the previous month (451,200 people) and the same period last year (449,500 people).

IN adults (aged 25-74), the unemployment rate was estimated at 4.4% for August 2024 (4.2% in women and 4.6% in men). The number of unemployed persons aged 25-74 accounted for 76.3% of the total number of unemployed persons estimated for August 2024.
