The plenum of the Chamber of Deputies passed a bill on the payment of a voluntary financial contribution on Romania’s behalf to support the Museum of the Victims of Communism in Washington, D.C., the USA, according to Agerpres.
„By government decision, at the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is approved the payment of Romania’s voluntary financial contribution to support the construction of the Museum of the Victims of Communism in Washington D.C., representing the equivalent in RON of USD 3,000,000. The financial contribution shall be granted in a single instalment. The contribution will be calculated on the basis of the RON/US dollar exchange rate, at the date of payment,” the draft states.
The contribution is intended for the construction of the Museum of the Victims of Communism in Washington D.C., as well as for the endowment of the section that presents the victims of the communist regime in Romania.
„At the request of the Museum of the Victims of Communism in Washington D.C., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian Academy, the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives and other institutions of the Romanian state may make available information, in order to a good representation of the victims of communism in Romania,” the piece of legislation says.
The bill was passed by the Senate, and the Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making body in this case.
