USR asks parliamentary committees hearings on European commissioner proposals

Published on

Save Romania Union (USR) Chairwoman Elena Lasconi reiterated, in a Facebook post, her party’s demand for convening parliamentary committees to hear Romania’s proposals for European commissioner.

„There are still 7 days until the proposals for European commissioner must be officially sent. I am asking Marcel Ciolacu to convene an extraordinary session next week. We, the USR, have already submitted a request to convene the parliamentary committees to hear the proposals for European commissioner. We have two problems that need to be solved quickly: the appointment of the European commissioner and the correction of the aberrations in the Pension Law. If Marcel Ciolacu cares about Romania’s prestige in Europe and the thousands of pensioners who have found themselves with reduced pensions, he must convene an extraordinary session,” Lasconi said.

Lasconi emphasised that the name of the future commissioner and the portfolio should be decided after consultations with civil society and the opposition parties.

„We must have a consensus on the name of the next European commissioner, because Romanians have the right to know who will negotiate for us in Europe. The choice should no longer be a political game behind closed doors, because the stakes are too high. The prestige of our country is at stake,” Elena Lasconi added.
