Save Romania Union (USR) leader Elena Lasconi sends a message of condolences to those who lost relatives after the devastating floods in Spain.
At the same time, she emphasizes that climate change „can no longer be ignored” and that the European Union must come up with concrete solutions to reduce the impact of these extreme phenomena.
„My thoughts go to Spain, where the devastating floods have claimed 70 lives, where 13 of our fellow citizens are among the people declared missing. I can only imagine the pain of these families which is hard to comfort at this time and I hope that they will find in themselves the strength to move on. I convey my full support and appreciation to the rescue teams, who are still on duty. Among those on duty is also my colleague Alexandru Ghiurca, who works for the Traffic Police Intervention Service. For more than 24 hours he has been working to clear the roads. I wish him and his colleagues strength and confidence to get through this extremely difficult moment,” Lasconi wrote on Facebook.
She mentions that there is a large Romanian community in Valencia and that she prays for their safety, but also for the safety of all people in the area, regardless of nationality.
„Climate change and extreme weather events can no longer be ignored. The European Union and its member states must take this challenge seriously and come up with concrete solutions to reduce the impact of these extreme phenomena,” Lasconi added.
