USR spokesman accuses gross irregularities in district 1 and 2 elections

Save Romania Union (USR) spokesman Ionut Mosteanu accused „a lot of fraud” and „gross irregularities” in the elections in Capital’s districts 1 and 2, saying that the recount of votes will be requested to the Municipal Electoral Bureau, the Central Electoral Bureau and even in court.

On the other hand, he criticised the way elections were conducted as a whole and called for the dismissal or resignation of the head of the Permanent Electoral Authority, Toni Grebla.

„I have not seen a worse organised election so far. Toni Grebla should have resigned or will have to be sacked instantly after we finish this election. They made a mockery of the people, they kept people in the stations for over 40 hours. They were not able to make a seemingly simple election. So they made all kinds of changes, they wanted to control it and they failed. There are people who have literally fallen off their feet, there are people sitting with bags. Today is Tuesday, the election ended Sunday night. There are people still standing around handing in bags of votes. It’s unprecedented in front of the electoral offices. It’s a mockery, it’s a defiance of all Romanians, a mockery of every vote cast on Sunday,” he said at a press conference.

Mosteanu maintained that there is „a lot of fraud” in districts 1 and 2 and mentioned that USR representatives filed criminal complaints.

„We see minutes transcribed wrongly. We see figures of independents passed to our candidates. We see huge differences between our mayoral candidate’s score and our Local Council score. These are unprecedented anomalies. They’re frauds, I can say that for sure. I’ve asked for a recount. The political decision, supported by PNL and PSD in the sector electoral bureaus, is not to recount. We will continue to go to the Municipal Electoral Bureau and the Central Electoral Bureau and then we will go to court. We have seen that they control part of the justice system. I don’t think the PNL and PSD control all the justice. I trust in the correct people in justice and I believe that justice will be done in the end,” he said.

Mosteanu said that according to USR data, Clotilde Armand and Radu Mihaiu won the local elections.

„The difference is very tight and they are trying to steal these votes. There will be some complicated days ahead. I appeal to the people who are responsible for deciding the fairness of these votes: don’t make a mockery of democracy, don’t respond to party orders, because they will be held criminally accountable,” said the USR MP.
