A Save Romania Union (USR) candidate for the local council in the small town of Dumesti, Vaslui County, is the oldest candidate registered on the lists for the local elections of June 9, USR Vaslui Chairman Mihai Botez said in a statement to AGERPRES, adding that this candidacy represents „a symbol of civism.”
According to the leadership of USR Vaslui, candidate Mihai Ardelean, born in 1923, is a war veteran and is listed as candidate on position 16 out of a total of 17.
„Mr Mihai Ardeleanu’s candidacy is a symbol of civism. It is an example and a call for community involvement of a respectable man. Born in the interwar period, he witnessed the criminal installation of the communist regime and also its equally criminal fall. He saw how difficult it is to be born and keep up the democratic spirit, and now, even at an advanced age, Mr Mihai Ardeleanu gives us all another lesson. Democracy was won through blood, but for it we must fight and work permanently, because otherwise we lose it,” said USR Vaslui Chairman Mihai Botez.
Data on the oldest and youngest candidates in the June 9 elections were unveiled at a news conference on Tuesday by the chairman of the Standing Electoral Authority (AEP). AGERPRES
