PSD MEP Victor Negrescu announces 7 priorities as the European Parliament plenary session begins: Fewer words about intentions and more work for concrete results.
- “Today marks the start of the European Parliament’s first plenary session after the recess. For me, this means fewer words about intentions and more work for concrete results.
I have 7 priorities for the coming months:
1. More EU money for Romania.
We are entering the decisive stage of negotiations on the future EU budget. I will defend cohesion and agricultural funding, local and regional investment, and will continue working to ensure that Romania makes the best possible use of the European resources available to it.
2. Education, skills and young people at the heart of European investment.
I will continue working to secure more funding for education, a much stronger Erasmus+, support for social scholarships and preparation for young people for the changes brought about by artificial intelligence. Europe cannot be competitive if it does not invest in people.
3. Accessible healthcare, including where services are lacking.
More European resources for healthcare, family and rural medicine, hospitals and medical staff, prevention, the mental health of children and young people, and better access to treatment and expertise across Europe.
4. A more competitive European economy, with Romania part of the change.
Artificial intelligence, digitalisation and new technologies must create jobs and opportunities in Romania too. I will support SMEs, innovation, reducing bureaucracy and access for Romanian companies to major European projects and investments.
5. A European Parliament that is more efficient, transparent and closer to citizens.
As Vice-President of the European Parliament, I will continue working towards a more modern and transparent institution that is better able to respond to the changes taking place around us. Europe must demonstrate through results that it can protect democracy and concretely improve people’s lives.
6. Let us help more people, rather than merely talk about solidarity.
Together with my colleagues from PES activists România, I want us to expand our social campaigns and reach more children, families and people who need support. Politics must also mean direct involvement in the community.
7. Let us do more to promote what is produced well in Romania.
I will continue to promote local products, entrepreneurs and Romanian companies. I believe in intelligent economic patriotism: buying and promoting Romanian products and helping them reach more European markets.
These are ambitious goals. But I prefer to take on clear objectives against which I can be assessed. At the end of this parliamentary year, I want us to be able to measure results, rather than count speeches,” says Victor Negrescu.
