PSD MEP Victor Negrescu announces an important step for those working in the healthcare system. The European Parliament’s Committee on Public Health has voted on the report regarding the European plan to address the healthcare workforce crisis.
The latest data shows a shortage of about 1 million healthcare professionals.
“I am pleased that several of the amendments I submitted were included in the final compromises. These include measures to improve working conditions for healthcare staff, investments in training and specialization, support for areas affected by a shortage of doctors, incentives to encourage the return of professionals who have moved to other countries, and better cooperation between healthcare systems across the European Union.
A significant achievement is the adoption, through a separate vote, of our amendment regarding resident physicians. It calls for better standards for professional training, fair compensation, adequate mentoring and supervision, respect for rest periods, and better working conditions.
Europe needs more healthcare professionals and stronger healthcare systems.
Through our amendments, we have sought to contribute to achieving this goal by ensuring that the European Union invests in healthcare personnel.
