Victor Negrescu, an MEP from Romania’s Social Democratic Party (PSD), says the security of Romanians is not negotiable. People must live safely, and protecting our sovereignty must be a priority!
- He says that next week the European Parliament will debate and vote, at his initiative and with the support of the S&D Group, on a resolution regarding Russian drone incursions in Romania and in other EU member states on the Union’s eastern flank.
“For me, the security of Romanians is not negotiable. People must live safely, and protecting our sovereignty must also be a priority for our European allies.
The reality is that many Romanians are viewing with concern the incidents caused by drones on the territory of our country. These concerns are natural, and citizens are asking why more is not being done.
That is why I insisted that this issue be treated seriously at European level.
Next week, the European Parliament will debate and vote, at my initiative and with the support of the S&D Group, on a resolution regarding Russian drone incursions in Romania and in other member states on the eastern flank of the European Union.
The objective is clear: concrete solutions to protect citizens, enhanced defence, monitoring and response capabilities, support for affected communities from European funds, and concrete steps to operationalise the European Maritime Security Hub at the Black Sea.
What is happening in our country is not just a problem for Romania, but a European one, which requires a much firmer common response,” Negrescu says.
