Von der Leyen proposes a temporary cap on natural gas prices in the EU

The European Union should introduce a temporary cap on natural gas prices until a new price index can be adopted, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday in the European Parliament, according to Reuters, Agerpres reads.

„The introduction of a general cap on gas prices is a temporary solution until we develop a new price index in the EU to ensure a better functioning of the market, and the Commission has already started working on this”, Ursula von der Leyen said.

She also stated that she will explain in a letter addressed to the EU leaders, who are meeting in Prague from Thursday, the fact that the EU should introduce a common energy procurement system.
